Hi! My Name is Loco and I am a Racist

Baye McNeil ★★★★☆ 25/07/2012

Récit personnel d'un Noir new-yorkais en Japon explorant son propre racisme à travers slang et conversations, perspective rare qui confronte le lecteur à ses préjugés.

Introduction

Book in english so review in english.

Subject

Story and thoughts on racism of a black man from New York now an english teacher in Japan.

Review

This is not an easy book to read for a french speaking reader : this book contains way too much slang and the kind of words and way of talking you don’t learn at school (some parts of the book are conversations transcripts).

It is not easy to read because it puts before your eyes your own racism !

But

It’s a quite unique way to discover the path of a black man from New York through school, work, army, city and at the end Japan. It’s clearly a way to see a new point of view on our current way of thinking. It’s a book that makes you discover life of a member of the 5% nation
