The Blue-Eyed Salaryman: From World Traveller to Lifer at Mitsubishi

Niall Murtagh ★★★★☆ 7/11/2018

Un portrait authentique de la vie quotidienne d'un salaryman étranger au sein d'une grande entreprise japonaise, qui dépasse le superficiel pour offrir une véritable compréhension culturelle.

What is it to work in a big Japanese company ?

This novel tells the everyday life from its most boring parts to the most exciting and funny ones. It really achieves the goal of telling the real life of a normal (but foreign) salary man without being boring or badly written.

It’s interesting ! You discover how is eating, doing meeting, applying rules, … The real job of a salaryman.

The writer must be very good at speaking Japanese. He even writes that it makes Japanese people somehow uncomfortable about his ability at speaking it.

A real book for a real discovery

There is no fancy and funny stuff like in Amelie Nothomb’s amusing but stupid book. This is a deep dive into a firm with strong values and traditions and way to interact with foreign people.
